One floor, four games

The hall was already there. What limited it was the floor — 820 square metres of tired parquet that could hold one game and no more. Lydakis lifted all of it by hand, cast a new lightly reinforced base beneath, and laid 1,120 square metres of FIBA-grade sprung parquet at 28 by 40 metres.

That single surface now carries a full competition basketball court, two 14×26 training courts beside it, and a volleyball court marked for handball as well. Four configurations on one floor is what turns a university gym into a training centre a city can share — professional squads, amateur leagues, children's teams, and residents, with accessible routes and rebuilt changing rooms so that "everyone" means it.

Strip out

820 m² of the old parquet taken up by hand, inside a building that had to survive the process.

A lightly reinforced C16/20 slab cast to receive the parquet — the part nobody sees and everything rests on.

03

FIBA floor

1,120 m² of sprung competition parquet at 28×40 m — one full court, two training courts, volleyball and handball.

04

Around the court
